Please contribute to help the water fight

- Dear Editor, Yours etc. Jon Gatacre Pretty Pine

I am writing to all Southern Riverina Irrigators’ members to encourage them to support the voluntary $300 contribution.

Thank you to the many who have already generously paid, and apologies for the manner in which Murray Irrigation Limited sent these invoices out.

Many might not be aware that SRI is not privy to the contact details of our own members. This information is held by MIL, so we had to rely on them to send out the notice asking for the voluntary contribution.

All that aside, there has never been a more important time in our history to fight for the very salvation of our community.

Besides what you may hear from government, councils and some unelected people, the single most important asset in our district is water.

In efforts to protect our access to this vital resource, we have been treated appallingly over the years through what I believe to be incompetent and weak leadership.

When farmers have water they make money, employ people and support local businesses.

This concept is the sole reason we have so many amazing communities, people and towns.

The very existence of our towns is because of water, which is the key ingredient that allows us to all flourish and prosper together, providing food for the country and the world.

SRI has a strong leader in Chris Brooks who doesn’t take ‘no’ for an answer.

Chris works tirelessly for very little to no remuneration. I believe he is our greatest hope in bringing fairness water political space.

SRI has what it takes to create real needed change, so again I encourage you to support Chris Brooks, Darcy Hare and others so they can keep fighting the fight for everyone.

They are making real inroads and having big wins where others have failed before them.

With the class action and floodplain harvesting issue, he huge impact.

As we have seen, we can’t rely on our own local federal member who doesn’t take the necessary action to support this community even when we have environmental degradation of our river systems because of unnaturally high, so-called environmental flows.

This is happening before her own eyes, yet ironically the Environment Minister is silent.

Please support SRI for the survival of our community and our children, as they are the future.
