Three standing

Three shareholders are expected to contest the Murray Irrigation Limited election for two shareholder director vacancies.

Blighty dairy farmer and Speak Up Campaign chair Lachlan Marshall is the only new nominee.

Current MIL chair Phil Snowden has re-nominated to continue on the board, and fellow shareholder director Waander van Beek has also renominated.

Nominations must still be assessed before the company can formally announce candidates, which is expected to take place next week.

Provided all three nominees meet the criteria, a ballot is expected to be held in September with successful candidates appointed at the October AGM.

In confirming his nomination, Mr Snowden said he was ‘‘passionate about Murray Irrigation Limited’’.

‘‘I absolutely stand by the strategic implementation, and there is still a lot of work to do on that.

‘‘I want to continue with the board, especially as we move toward the 2024 deadline for the Murray-Darling Basin Plan. It will be a critical time for the region.’’

If re-elected to the board, Mr Snowden said he would also be seeking to continue as chair.
