‘Come and try’ Little Athletics
Deniliquin Athletics Club is excited to be launching its 2021/2022 season with a ‘come and try’ day on Sunday, August 15 from 2pm.
The trial day is being offered so potential new members have a chance to try athletics, and so returning athletes can practice and finalise their registration process.
Those wishing to participate in the come and try day are asked to register online at www.lansw.com.au, where registrations for permanent participants will also be taken.
The Deniliquin Little Athletics season will start on Friday, August 20, from 4.30pm, and president Leanne Mulham said there will be some great opportunities for atheletes to learn from each other this year.
‘‘We are very fortunate to have a high number of under 15 and 17 athletes who will be assisting our new and younger athletes,’’ Mulham said.
‘‘There will be groups focused on an event skill at the start of each week, before each athlete completes three events, with the focus on improving technique so athletes can improve on their personal bests.
‘‘To be eligible for end of season awards we want all athletes fully registered for the official season start on August 20, with the plan to finish on December 10.
‘‘Age group champions are determined by points they receive for attendance and improving their own times and distances.
‘‘For this reason Deniliquin Athletics is suited to every athlete no matter what their ability.’’
The fee this season is $100 per athlete, and as a registered Active Kids provider government issued vouchers can be used to subsidise the cost.
Mulham said the popular ‘Tiny Tots on Track’ program for our younger members will also be held.
‘‘This focuses on developing movement skills.
‘‘The aim is to provide fun activities in a non-competitive environment, and keeping our young members engaged and active.
‘‘As these are shorter sessions we have reduced the registration fee to $80 for these athletes. For further information please contact our registrar Clare Baulch on 0407 334 866 or view our Facebook page.’’
Mulham said Deniliquin Athletics prides itself on having a great family atmosphere where the whole family can come along and have fun, make new friends, learn new skills and be involved in healthy activities.
‘‘The club emphasis is on participation and personal improvement.
‘‘Parents do need to get involved each week and we have many roles that need to be filled for our Friday nights to run smoothly.
‘‘The club has a COVID-safety plan which includes plenty of hand sanitation zones and COVID safety co-ordinators, and parents will need to sign in using the QR system each week.
‘‘As this is an organised sport event, our older athletes and parents/carers will need to wear mask and follow all the hygiene rules.’’
