Almost $4000 raised

-

The Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal has wrapped up for another year, with almost $4000 raised by the Deniliquin community.

The national appeal, now in its 56th year, is the organisation’s flagship fundraiser, which creates key funds to support its services.

And Deniliquin Salvation Army Lieutenant Tarsha Laundon thanks the Deni community for getting behind the cause.

The majority of money was raised through collections, and from a trivia night which launched the appeal earlier in the year.

‘‘Our launch trivia night was successful, raising $665,’’ said Lt Laundon.

‘‘We also set up at the supermarket to do our fundraising rather than doing door knocking.’’

The money collected will be injected right back into the local community.

‘‘The other 10 per cent is for the broader community, like rehabilitation and emergency services.’’

Lt Laundon said the appeal has held more significance this year, saying that more families are in need because of COVID-19 impacts.

‘‘With the extended impact and restrictions, the need this year will be the same if not higher than in the first year of the pandemic.’’

The Salvos continue to encourage anyone interested in supporting them, through donations or volunteering, to get in touch.

Donations are accepted at the Deniliquin Salvation Army Family Store, at 356 Cressy St, Deniliquin.
