Golf continues, but only two in a group

- By the NINETEENTH MAN

Yet again our golf is being impacted by lockdown restrictions, despite our region not having any Covid cases.

However, the good news is that we can continue playing, albeit in groups of two.

So competitions will continue as usual (almost) until the regional lockdown ends, which will not be for at least another week.

Golf is also a permitted exercise activity, provided the restriction rules are followed, so social play can continue.

Last Thursday the ladies played their foursomes championships, with 27 hole scratch and handicap events. The scratch winners were Kerran Leetham and Vicki Brunker with 121 and handicap winners were Ann Bull and Shandra Simpson with 100.5.

Last Saturday we had a fourball aggregate event won by Peter Joice and Daryl Nalder with 73 points, from Don Alexander and John Irwin on 72. In third place were Jackson Campbell and Troy Grant with 70, from Mark Ritchie and Scott Mildren also on

70.

Sunday’s stableford winner was Jackson Campbell with 40 points, from Don Bull on

38.

On Wednesday Graeme Rothwell had a day out scoring 43 points to win A grade from Kerran Leetham on 41. In what is usually a men’s competition, Kerran offered to help make up the numbers so one member was not left without a game. B grade winner was Scott Mildren with 35 points on countback to Mick Lyne.

As mentioned, events will continue to be played but in groups of two during the lockdown. Saturday and Sunday will be stableford, Tuesday is ladies singles versus par, Wednesday is men’s stableford and on Thursday, Saturday and Sunday we will have the Keno 2 person ambrose events. Round five of Premier League has been postponed until lockdown is lifted.

There will also be no Friday night activities until lockdowns are lifted.

Finally, check out the new driving range and ball dispenser. The covered range looks fantastic and the automatic ball dispenser will make it very easy for players to practise and improve their game.
