‘Unlocked’ excitement
It was with a level of excitement that the news of our move out of lockdown was received yesterday.
Details were still being finalised at the time of going to press, including how many golfers are permitted per group which will have a big impact on this weekend’s Spring Classic.
However, we can confirm the clubhouse will open tomorrow and return to normal trading, subject to the COVID-19 restrictions.
At this point we are anticipating a return to Friday night meals and raffles next week, and this will be confirmed in next week’s column.
Premier League is also likely to resume and this will also be confirmed next week.
In the meantime let’s all stay safe, get vaccinated (if you haven’t done so already) and look forward to more great golfing.
Last Thursday the ladies had their monthly medal, won by Jayne Barlow who also won B grade with a net 69. A grade winner was Marg Radeski with 72 on countback to Ginnie Lange, and B grade runner-up was Anita Gorsuch.
Saturday was men’s monthly medal, taken out by Graeme Rothwell with net 67 and he also won C grade, from runner-up Andrew Hall 71.
Matt Thomas had a sensational round of 67 for a net 70 to win A grade. He also contested the club’s match play final on Saturday against Vince Kelly and scored a resounding win. A grade runner-up was Peter Oddy. In B grade the ladies dominated, with Jenny Swainger scoring net 69 to defeat Lyn O’Brien 73, and in D grade Grace Tiri continued her improvement to win with net 67 from Karen Druitt 73.
Sunday’s stableford event remains popular, and this will no doubt increase further when the Premier League resumes. This week Lachie Campbell won A grade with 37 points on countback to Ken Wemyss, and Don Bull won B grade with 34 from runnerup John Wacheke 32.
The ladies played their revised version of Double Date and the Mary Bradshaw Bowl on Monday. A grade winner was Jane Armytage with 36 points from Cheryl Fuller 35, and in B grade Jane Glowrey had 36 points to win on countback to Leonie Chadderton. The Mary Bradshaw Bowl winners with 103 points was the team of Jane Armytage, Leonie Chadderton, Vicki Barnes and Coral Maher.
Wednesday’s men’s stableford A grade winner was Noel Swainger with 41 points from runner-up Graeme Willoughby 39. In B grade Peter Beckton had 38 to win on countback to Rob Sobolewski, and in C grade Ron Lawrence had 36 from runner-up Don Alexander 34.
