The Griffith and District Football Association has announced the official cancellation of the 2021 season.

Minor premiers have been declared based on results from the season.

‘‘Even though our winter competition season finals cannot be conducted, GDFA would like to acknowledge the achievements and congratulate the minor premiers for 2021,’’ the association said in its announcement.

The GDFA also thanked its players, parents, coaches, volunteers and supporters for supporting the season through its challenges with the pandemic.

The Deniliquin Wanderers finished third in the senior men’s section, of seven teams.

The locals had hoped to get back on the soccer pitch to contest the remainder of the season and finals.

The final game of the general fixture was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday.

The NSW Government has not provided a timeline for community sports to resume in its announcement.
