Premier League returns

-

Premier League Golf returns to Deniliquin Golf Club this weekend.

With the competition reaching the halfway point and the closeness of the competition to this point, this week’s matches are likely to have a huge impact on the finals hopes of a number of teams.

In the match of the round, the undefeated Bush Whackers face the highly fancied WOTAM.

A win to Bush Whackers would likely secure a finals place, while WOTAM will also be desperate for a win. As one of five teams with two wins, a loss will see them fall behind the pack fighting for finals.

In what will no doubt be a hotly contested match, expect Bush Whackers to take a narrow win.

Both Water Wizards and the Crackers, who each have two wins so far this season, will be looking for a win to move inside the top four. The question is, who will that be?

Crackers caused a huge upset in round four returning a team best score, while Water Wizards have produced steady scores each week. Consistency is a huge part of golf and for that reason, expect Water Wizards’ consistency to take the win.

Bragging rights are on the line in the all ladies match between Taylormaids and Eagles & Birdies.

Taylormaids, while currently sitting last on the ladder, recorded their first win in round four while Eagles & Birdies have produced inconsistent form so far this season. Taylormaids will be desperate for the win to keep their finals hopes alive, and that drive may prove to be the difference this week.

The loser of the match between the Wedgies and COVID-8 will likely be out of the chase for finals.

COVID-8 has had strong numbers each week and scored well, but have been unlucky to play a team that has had their best score of the season when playing them.

The Wedgies on the other hand have been a disappointment and have lost ladies B-grade club champion Sarah Aitken to injury.

Everything here points to a COVID-8 win. In the final match, Hit & Hope play Old Boys.

Old Boys have quietly moved into second position on the ladder, with a win making it hard for them to miss finals.

Hit & Hope are yet to gel as a team following major offseason changes. But despite their inconsistent form, they will challenge Old Boys, a win might be just the tonic to see them steam towards finals and live up to their high pre-season expectations.
