Local support needed for Veteran’s Week

- By the NINETEENTH MAN

The annual Veteran’s Week of Golf has become a significant event on our calendar, attracting many golfers from throughout regional Victoria and NSW.

Unfortunately, this year’s event is again impacted by COVID-19 restrictions due to the limited travel that is currently possible.

As a result, local veteran golfers are being encouraged to support the event, which will be held next week.

Monday is a fourball best ball stableford, with single stableford events on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. A presentation dinner will be held Thursday night.

Entry forms for the Veteran’s Week of Golf are in the pro shop.

There are also some other important events over the next week.

Tomorrow is the coveted Borella Cup which, as always, will be hotly contested.

On Sunday October 17 we have the Navorina Charity Day. Unfortunately last Sunday’s CanAssist charity day was cancelled due to the COVID scare, but let’s hope we can all get out on the course next Sunday and raise money for Navorina.

Last Saturday we had the Deni Car Care Monthly Medal, taken out by Josh Hunt with an impressive four over par round for a net 68. He also won A grade, and runner-up was Gary Rodda with 71. In B grade Felicity McCalman had net 70 to win by a shot to Jason Kerr, and in C grade the ladies dominated, Pauline Sherwin the winner with net 70, from Wendy Pekin 75.

On Wednesday John Penna was A grade winner with 39 points by a shot to Troy Grant, in B grade Phil Gatacre had 35 to defeat runner-up Cory Liefting 34, and in C grade Laurie Hughes had 37, from runnerup Scott Mildren 35.

Don’t forget the Friday night fun, which continues this evening from 6pm when raffle tickets go on sale. Draws take place from 7.30 and meals are also available.

Talking of raffles, there are great prizes to be won in the Christmas raffle and tickets are on sale in the clubhouse.
