PM’s invite to bridge opening

Murray River Council will lobby for the Prime Minister and NSW Premier to attend the opening of the new Echuca-Moama bridge.

Councillor Alan Mathers raised the motion in council’s meeting to support VicRoads’ invitation to the two politicians.

‘‘I’m a little bit fed up and tired that the cabinet, the ministers, the Premier of New South Wales, our federal ministers, really don’t seem to have much interest in what’s going on down here,’’ Cr Mathers said.

‘‘If we have a $300 million bridge about to be opened in six to 12 months, it seems to me a good opportunity to try and get somebody with some prominence into the area and let them know where we live.

‘‘It may provide some opportunity to talk about some of the other issues impacting this region.’’
