Burn gets away
Rural Fire Service firefighters were called to extinguish an escaped burn on the Riverina Highway on Sunday evening.
Mid Murray Zone Inspector Doug Adamson said the burn had taken place without a permit, and created a grassfire which burned up to 10 hectares.
The Deniliquin and Wandook RFS brigades responded about 6.20pm, and spent 90 minutes extinguishing the fire.
Insp Adamson said the permit period does not end until this Friday, meaning no burns should be taking place without necessary approvals.
He also reminded all landholders that all burns — whether in or out of the permit period — must be registered with the RFS at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify 24 hours prior to burning.
Wakool Rural Fire Service firefighters were called to extinguish a small grassfire on Wakool Rd on Saturday.
The fire started outside private property about 3pm.
A suspected cause was not reported.
