A ‘frustrating’ loss for Deni Rovers

-

errors again proved costly, although certainly the amount of effort was very good.

At three-quarter-time, Tocumwal led by 23 points, presenting a big job for the home team.

The last quarter saw Rovers play by far their best football for the day, as they attacked the ball well and went much more direct to kick 5.2 for the quarter.

The margin at three quarter time proved too much to overcome, and Toc were able to score three goals themselves to run out 10 point winners.

Final score: Rovers 10.11 (71) to Tocumwal 12.9 (81).

The loss was disappointing in that it showed that the ability is there to win plenty of games, but it’s the ability to play consistently that is very costly at the moment.

In each of the three games this season, the team has been right in the game but gone down by similar margins each round.

It is probably a matter of learning how to apply skills when under pressure, and learning how to take their opportunities to close out games.

Deniliquin were weakened by the absence of a few players on Saturday.

Those who bowed out were playing coach Alex Hay (shoulder), Ray Murphy (Bendigo Pioneers rep game), recruit James Falcone, Ryan Brunker (ill), Kaiden Joss (knee) and Haydn Mowatt (ankle).

May and McCulloch were both injured early in the game.

Recruit Liam Headon played very well and was listed in the best players. He will be a quality addition as the season progresses.
