Woman ‘dragged’

A 27 year-old Deniliquin man has been charged with domestic violence assault, stealing a car and driving while cancelled stemming from an incident on Tuesday.

Police say the pair were arguing while she was driving them between her home and his, about 3.50pm.

It escalated when the man allegedly grabbed her wrist and the steering wheel.

The woman stopped the car and got out, and was trying to retrieve her dog from the rear seat when the man reportedly jumped in the driver’s seat and drove away.

The woman, partly in the rear door, was allegedly “dragged” for a short distance.

She later received a text massage from the man saying her car was in Moama and she would have to retrieve it herself.

Police said checks revealed the man’s licence had been suspended in 2018, and then cancelled by VicRoads in 2019.

The man was arrested at a Moama home Tuesday evening and charged, and bailed to appear in court on July 12.

Assault accused tried to flee

A 19 year-old Deniliquin man who allegedly punched a man in the face and then tried to run from police has been charged.

After being tackled to the ground and handcuffed, he was charged with assault causing actual bodily hard and resisting police.

Police allege the 19 year-old punched a 34 year-old man - a family member - following an argument about a lease.

The younger man has been renting the older man’s home, but had been advised his lease would not be renewed.

The younger man confronted him about it about 2.30pm Monday.

Police said witnesses were forced to intervene.
