Pent up over pentax
Why have you got it in for Pentax? [In Digital Camera 152, we responded to Thomas Latcham’s request for more Pentax coverage by saying the Pentax community’s smaller size compared to other brands made expanded coverage difficult.] Can I assume, therefore, that you will never again mention Leica cameras due to their low sales?
Although I no longer use digital SLRs, having changed to Micro Four Thirds, I still have an old Pentax digital SLR out of nostalgia for the old film lenses I have used over the 68 years I have had a camera.
For me, photography is all about the lenses. I am happy if a camera can record a good image from them, and all current cameras can do that. But because their lens mounts don’t accept most of their heritage film lenses, I did not have a feeling of nostalgia for Nikon and Canon digital SLRs. They just became tools, which I got rid of when no longer used. I know there are enthusiasts who are passionate about these cameras, but for me, they are big, heavy and noisy modern replicas of antiques.
So why don’t you become a Nikon and Canon digital camera magazine?
This was the last Digital Camera magazine I will buy. I know when I am not wanted.
Anthony Smith We have tests of Pentax-compatible lenses this issue and a review of a major new Pentax camera next time. Of course the bigger hardware brands with larger communities get more space, but the smaller brands regularly come out with innovative ideas, and we intend to continue to make sure that they receive their fair share of the limelight in Digital Camera.
