7 “I picked a time when the lift was in the shadows. This allowed me to make the picture without glare. The hands and faces were easier to see, and I asked all to tightly press against the glass. So we solved all the problems on the shoot, and practicall­y no processing was needed.

“The idea for the image came quite suddenly. Walking down the street, I saw a boy put his hands against the glass in a store and look at me through it. Thus was born the idea.” Canon 1DX with Canon 70-200 f/2.8L lens at 200mm; 1/640 sec at f/4, ISO 100
