06 Capture Movember

Record the charity event for posterity

-

Forget Guy Fawkes and Thanksgiving, November is becoming increasingly wellknown for Movember – the annual event for which men grow a moustache to raise funds for prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health problems. The Movember Foundation has raised £345 million and funded over 800 programmes in 21 countries. As well as being a very worthy cause in its own right, Movember is a great photo opportunity, whether you’re shooting a teenager’s bum fluff or a more stately handlebar that has taken time to cultivate. Movember is a light-hearted way of raising cash for a serious cause, so you’ll probably find that most participants are fine about having their ‘taches photographed – particularly if you’re growing one too, or donating to the cause if you can’t.

Get started today

* When you see a great Movember moustache on the street, ask for a photo. Offer to make a donation to persuade people if they are shy. * Basic principles of portrait photography apply. Try to avoid distracting or messy backgrounds, or blur them out if this is tricky. A prime lens with a fixed wide aperture (at least f/2.8) is perfect.
