“I begin with an idea for a scene in my head, and then I sketch it out so that my subject can understand what I am trying to achieve,” explains Carl. “Once the compositio­n is worked out, I shoot the body as if it were a shopping list of abstract shapes. Maintainin­g consistent lighting and lens point of view is vital, so everything has the same sense of perspectiv­e and scale.”
