Nikon Close-up Speedlight Remote Kit R1

- What’s good: What’s bad: We say:

£435 / $490 www.europe-nikon.com Rather than using a single ring flash, Nikon’s R1 kit comes with a pair of SB-R200 flashguns that clip onto a ring mount that attaches to filter thread sizes between 52mm and 77mm.

The modular design means you can precisely position each flash to fire at the perfect angle. Diffusers and coloured filters ensure even the smallest and closest subjects are perfectly lit with near-shadowless light.

There are drawbacks, though. The system is powered by relatively pricey and uncommon lithium batteries, and you need a Nikon SLR with a pop-up flash with a commander mode.

Unrivalled creative flexibility for producing professional close-up shots.

Takes time to set up; unusual batteries; limited compatibility

Terrific macro lighting, if you’ve got patience and the right camera.
