ADORAMAPIX
Keen pricing and plentiful options
Like most other labs, New Yorkbased AdoramaPix offers a wide range of printing solutions, from straightforward photo prints to photo books and ‘home décor’, the latter including metal, acrylic and canvas prints as well as options for mounting and framing.
It’s billed as a professional-quality service, but there’s no support for the Adobe RGB colour space. If you use this setting, you’ll have to convert your files to sRGB before uploading them. The flipside is that ICC profiles are available to download for a variety of photo papers, book papers and book covers.
With a bias towards Kodak pro papers, the main choices are Kodak Endura in glossy, matte or lustre finishes, as well as Kodak Endura Metallic at an additional cost. It’s not quite Kodak all the way, however: Fujicolor Crystal Archive Deep Matte is a new addition to the line-up. Pricing is very competitive at, for example, $2.48 for 12x8-inch photo prints ($3.10 for metallic) and $18 for 30x20-inch ($21.90 metallic).
Performance
Like Loxley Colour, AdoramaPix offers free colour and density correction by hand, and says that its technicians have over 10 years of processing experience.
Processing times for photo prints and posters is typically two days (with expedited one-day processing at additional cost), followed by a variety of delivery options starting at $5 for a 7–9 day domestic service. Free domestic delivery is available on orders over $39. Print quality is impressive and, as with Loxley Colour, the hand-correction option typically yields the best results.
