Botanical photo book bought for €450,000
THE Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam has snapped up a book of cyanotypes by Anna Atkins (1799-1871), who is considered to be the first female photographer. Photographs of British Algae contains 307 blueprints of seaweeds, and is said to be the first-ever photo book. It has been acquired from a private owner, and will be on display at an exhibition at the museum from 17th June to 17th September.
