Question 2

-

Roughly how much more space does a raw file take up compared to a Fine-quality JPEG file?

ANSWER (B) Score 1 The answer is 2-3 times more. It’s not possible to be more exact, since different cameras’ file sizes and raw formats vary considerably, but as a rule of thumb you can expect to get one half to one third as many shots on a memory card if you shoot raw rather than JPEG.

For example, the Nikon D7200 can capture 929 Large Fine JPEGs on a 16GB memory card, but only 294 14-bit lossless compressed raw files. (Yes, some cameras offer different quality settings for raw files, just as they do for JPEGs.) Our advice is to get bigger memory cards!
