Question 4

A raw file will always look the same on any computer or device

ANSWER (B) Score 1 The correct answer is (B) – raw files will not look the same in different software and on different devices. There is no one correct ‘look’ for a raw file, since they can only be viewed once they’ve been ‘developed’ by the camera, your computer’s operating system (Windows and macOS can now display most raw files directly) or your raw software. This still applies even if you’re only grabbing a quick preview. With a JPEG, allowing for different displays, you can be pretty sure of how it will look on other devices or other people’s computers. With a raw file you can’t predict how it will look.

If you use your camera’s mono mode, that’s how it will display your raw file – but your raw software will ignore that and show the raw file in full colour.
