Digital Camera World

Question 3

-

Which is the best description of a raw file?

ANSWER (B) Score ½ (C) Score 1 This is a tricky question to throw into the Beginners section, but it’s important to understand what you’re dealing with when you’re shooting raw. You can award yourself half a point if you chose (B), a digital negative, since that’s what Adobe and others say. However, it’s much more accurate to think of it as an undeveloped image (C), since you can’t even see a raw file until it’s developed, whether it’s by your camera, your photo browser or your raw conversion software. And, just as in the days of film, different raw ‘developers’ produce very different results.
