Question 11
You can’t process your brand-new camera’s raw files until Adobe updates Camera Raw
ANSWER (B) Score 1 The answer is (B), false. All camera manufacturers offer free software for opening and editing their cameras’ files, including raw files. This software may not be as slick, powerful or convenient as Camera Raw, but it will let you process your raw files while waiting for an update from Adobe. You might even like the results a little better, since the makers’ software is tuned to replicate the camera’s own colour and tonal rendition.
Sometimes (rarely) the maker’s software may not yet be updated when the camera is launched, but there is another option – in-camera raw processing. Not every camera can do this, but many can. You can open a raw file saved on the memory card and apply adjustments, such as picture style, white balance and more, then process the file as a new JPEG with those adjustments applied. It can be slow working on the back of the camera like this, but it can get you out of a fix if you need to share a good-quality JPEG quickly and you’ve only shot raw files.
