Digital Camera World

Question 13

-

You can check your raw file on the camera’s screen

ANSWER (A) Score ½ (B) Score 1 The correct answer is (B). As anyone who shoots raw files will know, you can indeed check them on the back of the camera – but what you’re looking at is not the raw file itself. In fact, it’s a JPEG preview, created for viewing purposes using the current camera settings. Remember what we said earlier, that you can’t view a raw file directly, only a processed rendition? So it’s no use looking at the histogram, for example, to see if there’s any extra highlight or shadow detail, because there won’t be. The only way to find out is to open the raw file in a raw converter and look at it there – you’ll only really find out when you get the image opened up on your computer.
