QUICKFIRE Q&A
Has painting been important to your photography? I’ve always been as much influenced by painters as photographers. My way of shooting is controllable to a certain degree, but there’s still a lot of unpredictability about it, which is a bit like watercolour painting. What kind of approach is needed for your style? You need to have a willingness to play and experiment. I can happily spend an hour in a location, just wondering what I want to say and the best way to say it. What takes up most of your postprocessing time? I still find it incredibly difficult to choose which images are good – what’s worth working on and what’s not. It’s often easier to sit on a group of images for a month, then return to them with a fresh eye.
