Shoulderpod S2
£40/$40
Pros Useful for keen videographers; versatile; superb quality for the money. CONS Can get pricey once you start adding extra accessories. WE SAY If you shoot video on your phone, a Shoulderpod-type setup is a must.
Ergonomics and wafer-thin smartphones hardly go hand in hand, and this becomes particularly problematic when shooting video.
Obviously we wouldn’t condone the use of a selfie stick, but the Shoulderpod S2 gives you a comfy wooden handle to stabilise footage in style. The handle is connected to the G1 grip mount, which will mount virtually any smartphone easily and securely. Also, if you detach the handle, its 1/4in-20 connection will let you attach the clamp to a tripod. The clamp’s flat sides and base also enable you to stand your phone up on end, in landscape and portrait orientation.
A leather wrist strap adds further security, while the modular design makes it highly expandable. Extra plate attachments are available so you can mount a small LED light panel and even an external microphone alongside your phone to create a semi-pro video rig.
