Software that helps adjust models’ bodies as you retouch

PortraitPro Body complements its facial retouching sister software,

PortraitPro. Though the Body variant does include some face-flattering features, its focus is on whole-body retouching. You get a comprehensive range of enhancement options, including the ability to adjust various torso areas like the chest, abdomen, waist and hips, along with sliders for changing arm and leg size, plus tools to tweak more subtle attributes, such as neck length and hip angle.

But where PortraitPro Body really makes a case for itself is ease of use. While you can manually drag, enlarge or pinch specific body areas, more dramatic transformations require an initial markup. This is an easy process where you define key anatomical points and trace the outline of each limb. Now the software can automatically target specific body parts – and do so with impressive accuracy.

Focused retouching

The markup procedure also enables the accurate detection of bare skin for focused retouching, along with effortless wholebody adjustments to instantly make your subject taller, slimmer or curvier. What’s more, this isn’t limited to ideal images of a standing subject posing directly to camera. Even if your sitter is facing to the side or sitting down, the software allows you to define hidden limbs, and although some guesswork is required when marking up, the results are just as effective.

If you’d rather skip the markup stage, the latest version of PortraitPro Body adds a Lite mode, where you can jump straight in and make basic localised adjustments. Another new addition is the Warp Fixer tool. If your image has a geometric backdrop like a building, or even a straight horizon, there’s the potential for the background to get warped as you manipulate your subject. The Warp Fixer tool lets you trace elements of the original image you want to keep straight and automatically fixes these areas of the edited shot.

‘Ideal’ body

It really is easy to be deeply impressed by the sheer efficacy of PortraitPro Body, but it can also leave an uncomfortable lasting impression. From its built-in tutorials to the before-and-after sample images, it comes across as a product that’s designed to perpetuate the stereotypes of the ‘ideal’ western body image.

That being said, there really is no doubt that PortraitPro Body fulfils its brief extremely well.
