Sigma announces prices and availability for the ‘magnificent seven’ Art prime lenses coming to the Sony E-mount system in the next few months
Photo news around the globe
IF you’re a Sony fullframe mirrorless camera user, there’s a good chance you’ve been left frustrated by the lack of Sigma Art lens action. Up until now, if you had a camera like the Alpha 7R III, the only option if you wanted to use one of Sigma’s superb premium prime lenses was to buy the lens in Canon-fit and add the Sigma MC-11 mount converter for Sony cameras. Not any more. Sigma has confirmed it’s releasing seven Art lenses on Sony E-mount fitting this summer. Three are due to arrive in May: 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art (£750); 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art (£1,200) and 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art (£800).
In June, the 20mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art (£860) and 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art (£800) will be launched, with the 14mm f/1.8 DG HSM | Art (£1,680) and 135mm f/1.8 DG HSM | Art (£1,400) rounding out the septet in July. Sigma says the E-mount models will include a new control algorithm that “optimises the autofocus drive and maximises the data transmission speed”. They will also be compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF and high-speed autofocus, which is not the case if the MC-11 mount converter is used with a Canon-fit lens. The lenses will be compatible with in-camera image stabilisation and in-camera aberration correction. www.sigma-imaging-uk.com
