Using raw rather than JPEG offers the highest quality and largest range of conversion options for your black-and-white images, but there are some limitations. When you open the image in editing software such as Lightroom or Camera Raw you will lose any camera Picture Style settings that you used, so you will have to start your black-and-white conversion from scratch.
