Fill the frame with glass windows
IT’S fair to say that Canary Wharf is still in transition. The amount of construction work going on meant that some areas were unavailable to us, although the building work made for an interesting subject in its own right – everything from using the tiny figures of construction workers to add scale to the monumental architecture, through to capturing more abstract shots of advertising hoardings showing finished buildings framed against their skeletal constructions beyond.
“This building, currently under construction, had an eye-catching exterior facade,” says Tom, “with the diagonal lines an interesting contrast to the more traditionally seen horizontal and vertical lines of the windows.
I wanted to try and fill the frame with as much symmetry as possible, which proved difficult. In order to get this building symmetrically correct, I would have to be standing in the water of the North Dock to my immediate right…”
