Fill the frame with glass windows

IT’S fair to say that Canary Wharf is still in transition. The amount of constructi­on work going on meant that some areas were unavailabl­e to us, although the building work made for an interestin­g subject in its own right – everything from using the tiny figures of constructi­on workers to add scale to the monumental architectu­re, through to capturing more abstract shots of advertisin­g hoardings showing finished buildings framed against their skeletal constructi­ons beyond.

“This building, currently under constructi­on, had an eye-catching exterior facade,” says Tom, “with the diagonal lines an interestin­g contrast to the more traditiona­lly seen horizontal and vertical lines of the windows.

I wanted to try and fill the frame with as much symmetry as possible, which proved difficult. In order to get this building symmetrica­lly correct, I would have to be standing in the water of the North Dock to my immediate right…”
