SETTING up a tripod in busy areas requires extra vigilance. The last thing you want is for someone to trip over one of the legs. You’ll probably attract the attention of security guards too – but as long as you’re not causing any obstruction, you’re unlikely to encounter a problem.
It’s worth the trouble, as a tripod unlocks more creative opportunities. “There isn’t a great deal of colour at Canary Wharf amongst the corporate concrete and steel,” says Jim. “As you can imagine, however, it is full of busy people going about their business. I felt the best way to capture this was to mount my camera on a tripod and use a slow shutter speed to blur individuals on this bridge, which went from one building to another.”
