Presets

DxO PhotoLab comes with a selection of preset effects arranged into categories; but you can also create and save your own, either by modifying existing presets or starting from scratch and making your own adjustments.

DxO Sma rt Lig hting

One of DxO’s key technologies, Smart Lighting automatically balances shadow and highlight detail, though you can also change the effect manually. Here, it’s been used to subtly lighten the dense shadows in this picture’s foreground.

Control poi nt ad justment

This building has been lightened using PhotoLab’s new control point technology. There’s no need for masks or selections, since the control point automatically creates a mask based on the area beneath its centre point.

ClearView (Elite editiono nly)

DxO ClearView is like the Dehaze tools in other programs. It’s not just for reducing distance haze in landscape shots, though: it’s great for adding instant contrast, saturation and ‘punch’ to any flat-looking photo.

Grad uated Filter

This is one of the new local adjustment tools in DxO PhotoLab. You can use it to darken skies in landscapes and cityscapes like this one. It’s especially effective with raw files since it works using all the extra raw image data.

Virtual Copies

All of PhotoLab’s adjustments are non-destructive, even its new local adjustment tools. This non-destructive workflow means you can also create Virtual Copies of your photos to try out different effects without swallowing up disk space.

Repair too l

Now you can remove sensor spots, blemishes or other unwanted objects simply by dabbing or painting over them with the Repair tool. It uses pixels from the surrounding areas to create a seamless, invisible repair.

Export to dis k

To produce a permanent version of your photos that you can print or share, you need to export them as a new file. PhotoLab has many options for this, including regular JPEGs, 8-bit or 16-bit TIFFs, or even DNG files.

Improv ed sharpness

Image quality and optimisation is right at the heart of DxO’s software. PhotoLab brings further improvements to its image sharpening, which now offers an even better blend of sharpness and noise reduction at medium ISO settings.
