Nikon previews a new lens with Phase Fresnel tech
In a PR move that’s growing in popularity, Nikon has made a development (as opposed to product) announcement.
It’s working on a new AF-S 500mm f/5.6E PF ED VR lens – it’s the ‘PF’ that’s the key ingredient here. It stands for Phase Fresnel, a lens element that’s designed to reduce chromatic aberrations, a role which normally requires multiple conventional elements. The end result? A lighter, more compact lens. Nikon has previously used a PF element in the AF-S 300mm f/4E PF ED VR (right). www.nikon.co.uk
