Maximising the depth of field is often desirable in landscape photography. One technique to help with this is to manually focus the lens at the hyperfocal distance: the closest point at which a lens can be focused while still making objects at infinity appear acceptably sharp. There are plenty of smartphone apps that can work this out for you.
