Flash control

For off-camera flash, you’ll need a wireless flash controller. We used Yongnuo’s 600 EX RT with the YN-E3-RT wireless trigger. Don’t bother with TTL flash modes: in situations like these, it’s simpler to set the flash power manually using trial and error. Dan the photographer wanted to use his 85mm f/1.2 lens wide open to blur the background, which meant dialling the flash power right down.
