Try this exposure technique for raw images

Noise becomes more pronounced in the shadows when images are brightened in editing software, so it pays to get the exposure correct in camera. One technique that can help is ‘ETTR’ (expose to the right). This only works with raw images, but the idea is to expose a photo so that the histogram is close to the right of the graph, then reduce the exposure to the correct level when you process the file.
