Mitakon releases “bokeh monster” for Fujifilm GFX

A super-wide aperture with this lens should yield exceptional image quality

-

As you’ll read in the review from page 110, the new Fujifilm GFX 50R medium-format mirrorless camera is now on sale. And the good news keeps on coming – a new super-fast lens for the system is imminent, too. But it’s not a Fujinon: the Mitakon Speedmaster 65mm f/1.4 is manufactured by Chinese optical specialist ZY Optics. With an equivalent focal length of around 50mm, this standard manual-focus prime is two full stops faster than Fujifilm’s own GF 63mm f/2.8 R WR lens. The super-wide maximum aperture of f/1.4 creates what the manufacturer is describing as “a bokeh monster”.

The metal-cased lens is constructed from 11 elements in seven groups, and has a nine-blade diaphragm. One of the lens elements is Ultra-low dispersion (UD) and another is High-reflective index (HR). ZY Optics says that together this will help deliver “exceptional image quality to meet the demanding 51.4MP sensors” that feature in the new GFX 50R and its existing stablemate, the GFX 50S (reviewed in Digital Camera 190).
