Photokina cancelled until May 2020
Too soon after the last one, say organisers
Just as the confirmed line-up of The
Photography Show broke cover, Photokina’s organisers pulled the plug on its 2019 event. The world’s biggest photography trade fair, held every two years in Cologne, was due to have taken place this May as it transitioned to becoming an annual event.
This was just seven months after last September’s show which, with so many launches having taken place, would have been a hard act to follow so soon. Photokina fans shouldn’t despair, though, as the event will return on an annual basis in May 2020. “It is unlikely that, in May 2019 after just over seven months, we will be able to create the same enthusiastic atmosphere that characterised Photokina 2018,” said Rainer Führes, CEO of the German Photo Industry Association, which heads up the show. www.photokina.com
