Brain’s Foto Guides
Former DC editor is your guide to Bath photo hotspots
Regular Digital Camera contributor and former editor Ben Brain has just published the first in a new series of maps, showcasing the best photo locations in a given area. Brain’s Foto Guides kick off with Bath, Ben’s home city: the map reveals some of the best spots to capture shots of well-known landmarks, but from different angles.
As Ben writes in his Art of Seeing column on page 39, the inspiration for his maps came from passing the same spots on his walk to work, but not stopping to appreciate them. Returning later, he found fresh ways of composing photographs of familiar sights. Ben has curated the best locations in Bath for photography, rather than covering all the obvious ones, and says that Brain’s Foto Guides are the first of their kind – he had never before come across a pocket- or camera bag-sized map of photo locations.
The map is geared towards users of all abilities, whether you’re shooting on a DSLR, a CSC or a smartphone. In addition to suggestions on where to stand and where to look, Ben has included some handy information on when to shoot – creating a sunrise/sunset calendar specific to Bath.
