4K meets best-ever image stabilisation in Sony’s latest attempt at an action camera. But the main highlight is supposed to be its Live View remote – a wireless, wrist-worn touchscreen that lets you control the FDR-X3000 and see a live feed from its Zeiss lens. In practice, the accessory is unreliable, but the FDR-X3000 has plenty more going for it.
Its 4K 30fps video may not be able to match the 60fps smoothness of some rival cams, but quality is nonetheless superb, with Sony’s Balanced Optical SteadyShot somehow making even the shakiest hand-held shots look smooth: it’s a very capable stabilisation system. As a bonus, Sony’s MPK-UWH1 waterproof housing is in the box, which makes the FDR-X3000 waterproof to a whopping 60m down.
