STEP 4 DEVELOP YOUR CYANOTYPE PRINT

It’s time to see the magic appear right in front of your eyes

-

Set up two baths to develop the image – one filled with tepid water and the other with citric acid crystals. Add 40g of crystals to one litre of water, then mix it all together until the crystals dissolve. Wear a pair of medical gloves if you’re worried about spillages.

When your cyanotype print is ready to be developed...

1 Remove your exposed print from the frame. Wash it under a cold water tap with a decent amount of pressure; the yellow ink will rinse away. Do this for around three minutes. 2 Put the print in the chemical bath, agitating the bowl back and forth for two minutes. 3 Wash the print under the tap again. Place it in clean tepid water for four minutes. 4 Leave it to dry for 24 hours – this will allow the dark blues and whites to come through.
