Adjustment Layer Blending Modes
Blending Modes are not just useful for mixing image layers and pixels: they can also be handy when used in combination with Adjustment Layers. For example, the Black & White Adjustment Layer normally converts an image to monochrome, but if you change the Adjustment Layer’s Blending Mode to Overlay, it instead gives a punchy desaturated look. Alternatively, if you set the mode to Luminosity, you can use the Black & White Properties Panel sliders to alter the brightness of colour ranges in a colour image.
