Before attempting to capture night-time star trails, it pays off to visit the location in the daytime to help frame the shot. Camera settings
To fight noise, you could use a narrower aperture and a lower ISO, but the camera may not pick up as many stars.
Frame up your shot
Take a test shot at a shorter exposure and a very high ISO. This should be enough to be able to see in which direction the stars are moving.
Seek out foreground interest
Look for locations with a bridge, rock formations or big trees.
Another technique is to shoot multiple shots and stack them later in editing software
