BEFORE YOU GET STARTED THINGS TO CONSIDER
Tips for producing your time-lapse efficiently
Check the weather
Depending on your time-lapse subject, you might be taking shots for a couple of hours, or even overnight. So if you are shooting outside, it is worth checking the weather for the whole period you expect to be out. Unless the weather is part of your time-lapse theme, you ideally want a consistent spell of dry conditions, so check your weather app.
Protect your camera
Even if the weather looks fine, if you’re leaving your camera to capture frames overnight or for a long duration, it is worth investing in a waterproof cover for your camera and lenses, on the off-chance there is rain. Also use a sturdy and weighted tripod that will not blow over easily, so that you’re avoiding the possibility of camera shake affecting your frames.
Memory cards
Before you start, make sure you have a clear, high-capacity memory card: depending on your shooting intervals, a lot of capacity could be taken up by your shots. I went for a 256GB card to give myself ample room for storing the time-lapse images and processed movie. The last thing you want is your memory card getting full during the time-lapse period.
