SIX KIT ESSENTIALS FOR TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY

-

Weather-sealed camera

A travel photographer’s camera needs to survive snow, sand, dust and torrential downpours, and it will inevitably take a few knocks along the way.

Waterproof cover

Gear can be written off by bad weather or the smothering humidity of some regions. A waterproof cover should be in any kit bag to protect equipment from hard rain or water getting in.

Multi-purpose lens

Situations change quickly. There’s not always time or the ideal circumstances to swap lenses. It’s useful to have one lens that covers a lot of bases, from wide-open shots to close in.

A powerful zoom lens

A long telephoto is essential for photographing people from a distance – especially in crowded situations – photographing wildlife, and also for picking out details in landscapes or cityscapes.

Lightweight camera

A small, light second camera is often useful, especially if you’re wandering streets for hours to photograph local life, or for situations where some discretion is preferable.

Lots of memory cards and batteries

The last thing you want in a once-in-a-lifetime situation is to run out of power or storage. Always carry plenty of spare cards and a few charged batteries.
