A LITTLE RESPECT

-

Sometimes it’s a tricky balance between taking photos of people and not bothering anyone or being disrespectful. It’s never good to see tourists with cameras, phones or iPads crowding around a local person who’s clearly confused, anxious or scared.

If you want to take someone’s photo, ask in a polite, friendly way. If language is an issue, point at the camera, smile and ask “OK?”

When you’re taking candid, non-posed pictures, such as street photography, try to be respectful and nonintrusive. If someone doesn’t want to be in a photo, that’s fine. Be aware of local sensitivities – people in some cultures simply don’t like to be photographed – or times when taking pictures isn’t appropriate.
