THREE WAYS TO PICK OUT UNIQUE MOMENTS OF DAILY LIFE
Stomping around with your eye glued to your viewfinder will lead to photos of people staring at the camera, posing and looking self-conscious or annoyed. Be discreet. Blend into a scene to capture undisturbed moments and take photos before the moment changes. Consider using your camera’s rear screen at an angle rather than looking through the viewfinder.
BE ALERT
Keep your eyes and mind open to sights that are novel or interesting. You never know when a child will paddle down the river next to you in a washing-up tub, for example – it’s not something you see every day.
BE READY
If you’re planning to take pictures, keep your camera switched on, in standby mode. The moments it takes to flick a switch and wait for your camera to come to life can be the difference between getting a photo or not.
GO HIGH
Not all street photography needs to be at ground level. Use roofs, balconies, hotel windows or other heights to get a different vantage point. You could also use a drone, if you have one (and if it’s allowed).
