Seven-day challenge

Inspired by the challenge posed in our April issue, Liz Thompson took themed shots every day for a week. Here are the resulting images, and how she edited them

Digital Camera reader Liz Thompson dived in and took our recent seven-day challenge – she shares the results and her tips

Thank you for posing the seven-day black-andwhite photo challenge in issue 240, which I have really enjoyed doing. I can’t quite believe how liberating it feels to remove the colour from an image and explore tones, textures and shapes. It has really encouraged me to look at the world through fresh eyes, and I feel it’s providing a grounding for truly creating images rather than using images as a means of representation.

I’ve selected seven photos taken for the challenge to share with Digital Camera readers, and would love it if you could give me some feedback. They were all taken on my Canon EOS M, which I have just upgraded to the Mark II.

I’d like to add that, inspired by your feature in issue 237 (page 56) that suggested adopting many potential resolutions, I decided to set some photographic objectives for 2021.

One of these was to embrace a new challenge or enter a competition every month. So far I have entered both Camera College Shoot Food and Light Trails competitions; the sevenday B&W challenge really appealed for my next one.

It’s such a fantastic way to get out of your comfort zone, try new ways of looking at the world around us and develop new skills in the process. I look forward to embracing new challenges over the coming months, which I’m confident will be inspired by the content in Digital Camera!
