CLOSE FOCUSING
A 50mm prime can focus as close as 45cm from the sensor plane – but if you want to get even closer, just turn it backwards! An inverted 50mm gives roughly the same magnification as a macro lens, so that’s a impressively close to a 1:1 ratio without having to spend money on a macro lens.
Although you can just hold the lens in position the wrong way round, that isn’t really a satisfactory solution for serious shooting. What you need is a reversing ring that has your camera mount on one side and the lens filter thread on the other.
